Visual Studio - The certificate you selected for signing is either expired or has another issue

Hi.. getting this error when I select a PFX file to sign a Windows 8.1 app. The pfx contains the private key. I created the PFX by exporting from a new Cert. Any ideas?

How was this new cert created?
It has to be a "code signing" cert from a trusted authority.
You can create your own and trust your own authority, but if you intend to sign installables for newer Windows you will be met with huge resistance unless you use one of the authorities that Microsoft already trusts.

Yes.. code signing from a trusted authority - Govt agency.

No certificates meet the application criteria - when signing Windows 8.1 app

when selecting 'Choose certiciate' under the package.appmanifest designer in visual studio. I've added by cert to the machine. What is the criteria? I have dozens of certs on this box - how come none appear from the certificate store.?
