Hi,

First of all this backup device and software should be compatiable with your VM. There are certain vendor supported tape drives and media which works with VM's.

Please have a look at this article http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1016407 which details about the configuration.

Hope this helps.

You should maybe consider changing the method of Backup, especially where tape backup of the VM is concerned, and use a VM Backup application, which backs up at the block level, which is a faster and more efficient way of backup.

If you are using VMware vSphere, VMware does not support Tape Drives connected directly to ESXi 5.x.

I would recommend looking at Veeam Backup and Replication, which does have a tape backup option.
