mpeg files joining and playing in order

Hi,

I have 2 mpeg video files on my windows laptop desktop.

their names are
3_xyz.mpeg
and
2_xyz.mpeg
and
1_xyz.mpeg

how to join them. is there is open source tool to join them so that they play automatically in correct order

when i added them to windows play list it played first 3_xyz.mpeg  then 1_xyz.mpeg  then 2_xyz.mpeg randomly but i want instead to be played as below

1_xyz.mpeg
then
2_xyz.mpeg
then
3_xyz.mpeg

how do i add them to windows or real or vlc etc player to play in proper or custom order i want. please advise

Try VOB Merge
It works for MPG files as well.

In VLC, you should be able to add the files to the playlist and sort them by name.

Once sorted by name, they should play in the correct order.

Part 2: When I add videos to the VLC playlist and do not sort them, they play in the order that they are added to the playlist (select the first one you want to play).

I have 2 mpeg video files on my windows laptop desktop.<< you mean three.
their names are
3_xyz.mpeg
and
2_xyz.mpeg
and
1_xyz.mpeg << if you want them to play in a specific order ensure the first one is marked 1. so it is at the top of the playlist.
I noticed you have them displayed back to front here. If you want the marked  3_xyz.mpeg  to ply first rename to 1_mpeg
then the next in order 2_mpeg and 3_mpeg they will load 1 2 3 in that order.
how to join them.
If you merge in their correct order then they will be one video and no need to play in any order.
Haven't we used windows live moviemaker to merge them?
Open WLMM drag and drop the first video on then move the curser to the end of this first clip then drag and drop the next on move curser to the end of the 2nd clip drag and drop the last on,
Merge videoNo go to file at the top left and save movie for, choose high def mpeg4 Or High def WMV
it will then save them into one single clip.
save movie for
To play in VLC play list
open VLC then at the top VIEW> click on playlist, drag and drop your video on in the order you want.
Press play on the first and will play through,
Same process WMP open it to now playing drag on the three video then right click the top and play. If the name is correct they will ply in order,
Same wil Real player.
