Server 2008 R2 Memory Usage

I seem to get serious performance issues with applications accessing a SQL Server.

I was trying to determine the cause and I found that the memory usage on the system was 14.5

Amazingly there is only 8 GB of ram installed.  Does that mean that there is 6GB of paged memory??

We have people here who are using Access and linking to SQL databases to do custom queries etc.

When two or three of these individuals have access open at the same time are all their mappings etc for access mapped in the memory of the SQL Server?  If so then I can understand the great overrun on physical Memory.

Have you made any changes to sql instance server memory options? When you right click on the sql instance then click on properties, Then select memory in here you can set the allowed memory min-max for that instance. Rather than leaving SQL to use all available memory from the server.

Paged memory is usually managed by the system itself, but if you set it, it should be approx.
paged memory = total memory x 1.25.
