TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified

I have an ASP.NET application (2.0), I made a connection to a web server which previously had Oracle client 8.1. We recently had to upgrade the Client to 11.2 and now when I make a connection to the database from the web application, I get the following error:
TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified

My connection string is: "Provider=MSADORA.1;DataSource=Test;User ID=test;Password=test"

I'm not sure if I need to change the provider or is the problem with the oracle client.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

When the client was upgraded was the appropriate tnsnames.ora file loaded for it?  The 8.1 client should have had a tnsnames.ora file that allowed MSADORA to be resolved.  I'm thinking you need to include that tnsnames.ora file for the 11.2 client.

See these pics.  I have two clients installed (32- & 64-bit).  Each has to have its own tnsnames.ora file.

My point is that the error message you are receiving indicates the name MSADORA can't be resolved.

thanks for your response omgang.

Since MSADORA isn't being resolved, what would be a work around?

My oracle_home was pointing to the wrong tnsnames.ora file.
