Patchpanel to patchpanel cabling

Hello,
I have a room with workstations which needs to be wired. Instead of running cables from IDF directly to the workstations, can I run the cables to another IDF with a patchpanel which would be mounted in that same room where the workstations are and then wiring the cables directly from that patch panel? It would be a lot easier to run the IDF to IDF then IDF directly to the workstations. Is that allowed in the industry?

IDF patchpanel -> workstations
vs
IDF patchpanel -> IDF patchpanel -> workstations

Yes this is a very common practice, you try to minimize connection/splice points.

Think of a typical fiber deployment, you go switch -->Panel --> Panel --> Switch

Exactly what you are doing.

Even when it is going room 1(Switch -> Patch panel) -> room 2(Patch panel -> workstations)?

yes, not a problem, I have seen certified cabling running from a switch in the IDF, to a closet, and spliced at a 110 block, then carried to a room, and terminate to a device.

That is ok.  The standards are not as much concerned about splices, as they they are signal loss over distance.  Each splice or connection will degrade that signal. But I see no problems with your design.  That design is very common in data centers where you have a network rack with switches, that run to patch panels at carry to another patch panel in another rack, then the servers connect to the patch panels.  But more typical in very large data centers.

Yes you can do it and it is very common to have this kind of cabling. It's called "mirror" or if it was from switch-switch or a more complex network it is called "harness links".

You should be fine doing this and is within standards of cabling implementation (COMMSCOPE).

Also there won't be a problem with cable certification.
