Mavericks' Messages app no longer signs on Google Talk

hi OSX experts

my Mac Pro is still running Mavericks but with all patches and updates up to date. i recently noticed its Messages app no longer signs on Google Talk with my Gmail accounts and after troubleshooting I believe the issues is related to the "access for less secure apps" setting of my Gmail account.

once "access for less secure apps" is allowed, Messages can sign on and stay in Online status. once the access is blocked, Messages will prompt a dialog box asking for the password though the correct password has been saved in the keychain. obviously i do hope to keep blocking less secure apps but if so the Messages app no longer works actually.

is there anyone here having the issue? Any solution please?

kind regards
bbao

Use Adium or Pidgen.  I still connect to google talk with them.  I've never really used Messages.

thanks for the suggestion. do the two programs support Apple ID?

I used Trillian years ago, a similar multiprotocol IM utility that supports heaps of IM providers. Anything special per your experience on Adium or Pidgen?
serialbandCommented:
There's no Apple ID support in either.

Adium and Pidgen use the same base source code.  Long ago, there was only Adium for Mac and Pidgen for Windows.  Pidgen released a version for Mac a few years ago.  The Adium GUI was more Mac like, but I haven't seen pidgen recently on the Mac; they're otherwise the same in features.

so it seems i have to stick with Messages or iChat for a while as my contacts are other Apple users on iOS and OSX.

yeah, i like the GUI of Adium , it looks like a native Mac application.

You could always run both.  I run multiple apps with no problem.  The users are separate anyway.  Otherwise upgrade to Yosemite 10.10.3 and the you should have no problems.

yeah i believe my Mac Pro got pretty enough power to run the apps and more, but the tackle is actually myself who always prefer using something all-in-one for better integration and ease of use. :)
