"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Fluke make good cable testers. They are not the cheapest but they are good.

It depends on your projected use. If it is for very limited use and you only want to see if a cable is good, a inexpensive tester that you could pick up at a home building supply house should do the trick. If you plan to use the tester a lot, I agree with Mr. Hurst. Fluke makes very good equipment.

Hi All Thank you for the reply, I have a basic tester that is fine but I wanted something a little better this time. I have been looking at the link runner AT 1000 but I can't find a sample report, I wanted to see what it would give me. I want to be able to show that all out work has been tested, anyone know where I could get a sample?

Okay that made my mind this is the device for me. Last question, the tone test cable trace function I believe that I will need the accessory but again I couldn't find it.  Can anyone advise? I wish I could get this of the shelf where I am, time is of the essence.

What do you need exactly ?
Fluke Network answers :
"Types of cable testers
In general, testers used on premises cabling can be divided into three categories.
•       Verification Testers – Used to determine if the cable is properly connected.
•       Qualification Testers – Help determine if the cabling will support technology requirements like fast Ethernet, VoIP, Gigabit Ethernet,
etc. This type of tool is sometimes erroneously called a “Speed Certifier”.
•       Certification Testers – Test the cabling to ensure that it meets specific cabling performance standards. A good certification tester is
easy to use, but has the ability to quickly do complex and accurate calculations."
if you need to cable tester and some network tests you had better to buy LinkRunner AT 2000 (with fiber testing)
if you need cable tester cheap and  best than LinkRunner , you should buy the qualifier CableIQ from fluke
