How to loop an mp4 video on an android tablet

Kiddo has a school project and he needs an mp4 video to loop over and over. The native player plays the video once through and then requires manual intervention to play it again. Any thoughts on how I could get this thing to loop? Also I need to keep the screen saver from kicking on - but that I can probably figure out. Thanks. This is a Nexus tablet.

VLC and MXPlayer should both do looping playback.  And normally, video playback would keep the device awake.

Most players have looping playback, are you sure that the native player cannot do this which will stop the screen saver from kicking in?

Nexus only supports MP4 or WMV

If the native player cannot do this, then download and install:
"VLC media player for Android"

I dont have an Android to show you so is VLC different from windows?
In VLC go to the top >VIEW>advanced controls
Now you should see a few extra buttons
on the right side shows in this picture is one loop button for different settings you control
VLC Advanced controlsNow hold your mouse on the Headphones looking Icon
It will say play from point A to Point B, so if it's from the start click on the start of the video then headphones sets start A
play it to get to part B, click on Headphones gear to set B. It will now play between these points A n B
VLC Loop

I've been working with VLC and MXP directly past couple months.  the loop controls for VLC aren't there, but I swear they were initially -- I'll go email them and ask.

But MX Player can do it right now.  Start playing the video.  Tap the vertical three-dot menu in the top right.  Select 'Play'.  You'll see the menu option "Loop one".

mx_player playback options
Tap that.  When the video ends, should automatically restart (mine just did..).
