HTTP Redirect in Sharepoint 2013 IIS Breaks Edit and Settings Privileges for Administrators

We have a SharePoint 2013 Standard Server, the database resides on a SQL server.

When I go into IIS and create a re-direct so that http://mysharepointserver redirects to https://portal.domain.com/sites/whatever when I logon as a Full Control Administrator the edit link and the Settings selections do not work.  They do nothing.

When I disable the redirect, login as administrator it works.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I have whittled this down to an absolute....if I check the "Redirect requests to this destination:"  it breaks it.

If I uncheck it, it works like it is supposed to.

Hi,
I just can guess that this is related to zone / AAM settings.

You should avoid configuring IIS through IIS manager and instead use Central Administration and/or Powershell scripts.

Can`t you just configure your internal and public url of your default zone to  https://portal.domain.com
?

A good source for AAM:
