Upper Level Protocol

Getting the following on a Gig interface on my 9006 Router doing a

sho int gig<interface>

268562 drops for unrecognized upper-level protocol

Now i know what upper level protocol can be, like IPv6, CDP or something else that we or the other side have not configured to handle.

The question is, how do I find out what is actually causing the drops?  What type of protocol?

thanks

Are you aware of this article? I have a feeling you do, if not read it first as it describes your situation.

If you have no idea what happens then your best angle of attack is to hook up wireshark on a copy port, and see what packets pass by when the counters increase. And make sure that settings are setup as appropriate either on the 9006 or the adjacent device.

Yes, I am aware of the article.  I was looking for a possible command on the 9006 that might show me what packets/protocols are coming in on the interface.  Is there such a command?  I will do the packet capture if need be.
