How to take a square picture

I am attempting to sell some items online, and the host recommends that the picture of the product be square in format. The way they crop the image whatever is in the center of the picture will appear in the thumbnail(there are multiple views of the item).

Is this something you set BEFORE you snap the picture, or an editing function in an image editor? I am using a Galaxy S5 phone to snap the pix. Thanks in advance.

I don't believe you can take a square picture as the aspect ratios are normally 4:3 or 16:9. You'd be best taking the picture and then using a photo editing application to crop it to a square format.
In my Galaxy phone, the square option is not available.
A proper digital camera should have that option.

If I need a square photo I use the 1 x 1 Square Cropping Preset in photoshop.

You can automate this process of producing large quantities of square photos in Photoshop with
