Managed Cisco Switch to remotely turn off a port

I need to determine if it’s possible with a Managed Cisco Switch to remotely turn off a port (or preferably a full VLAN) and turn it back on so that the link stops and starts again, and if so, specifically how, and what model switch would do it.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Just about any of the smart or managed Cisco switches (Small Business Sx200 and up or any Catalyst or Nexus model) will allow this. Disabling ports is accomplished with the CLI "shutdown" command on the interface or the GUI administrative status switch, where applicable. In similar fashion to ports, shutting down the VLAN can be accomplished by using the CLI "shutdown" command on the VLAN interface. Shutting down a VLAN from the GUI may not be quite as simple, but removing the VLAN's IP address from the switch will accomplish much the same thing.
