YouTube downloading????

I am limited by downloads (getting wifi off cell phone). I am a teacher and enjoy watching YouTube videos on history. I'm wondering if there is an application that will allow me to download videos. My idea is to download them at a place like Starbucks off its wifi, then watching them at home.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi Raider,
There is TubeMate for Android and Video Downloader (by AppsNeon) for iPhone.
Those allow downloading of content and watching later.
They come with adverts - popups, so you may want to look for a paid version instead.

Hope that helps, I would just try a few off the Google store/iTunes and see which you like best :)

Here are some iOS apps that will download YouTube videos to iOS:

(Free) MxTube for YouTube [4.5 stars, 152 ratings]
(Free) ProTuber [3.5 stars, 406 ratings]
($1.99) PlayTube Pro [4.5 stars, 38 ratings]
($1.99) MyTube for YouTube [4 stars, 245 ratings]
($2.99) VIATube [4.5 stars, 10 ratings]

Thank you.
Actually, I want to download the videos onto my laptop (Win 7) -- not my iphone.

In that case, you could try:
Video Downloader Professional for Chrome.

By the way, I'd much prefer to pay for this than to get spattered by a bunch of ads.

The chrome one is a plugin for Chrome. They are usually pretty good!

Hey Ned-
It looks like Clip Converter and SaveFrom are free. The problem is that applications like the always seem to require downloading other programs.... and viruses seem to follow inevitably. Like I said, I don't mind paying $30 or whatever for something that's going to create less stress.

Personally I would rather download something free and use Adblock Plus (free) than risk handing over bank/card/paypal details :)

I like Free YouTube Downloader, and have found it gave lots of valuable options for downloading (output type, quality, etc) that could be helpful for you -

Also, KeepVid works from your browser and is requires pretty much zero effort -
I use the Paid version of youtube downloader pro, it has a yearly fee of 29 dollars, and I only get it from the Youtube Downloader Host Page no other.
Why pay for it you ask when you can have a lesser version for free.
It gives me the option to convert any video even off my windows not necessarily only youtube.. extract only the audio from the video and multiple downloads can be queued and it's faster. I've had over 20 clips queued all converted at the same time to make them smaller if needed.
Has an inbuilt media player with full screen.
Plus I feel more secure paying for it and 29 dollars a year is not a lot for these extras, most video converters can cost more than. Love the fact I can download the audio only.

Up to you RaiderNationDelegate
Using an Android phone is the best option for me personally. That's because in the past there were several good plugins without the "HEY LOOK AT ME, PLEASE CLICK THIS AND THAT" for free. Nowadays it's either full of adware or you have to pay for it.
Let me know if you want to know more about the Android option (free, no ads). And since it's android, you can copy the files back to your PC without a hitch.
Here is a software which I tried and will let you download videos from almost any website, not only you tube:
