cannot install quickbook update

I am needing to install the latest update (R16) for quickbooks pro 2012 but when attempting to install the update I get the error "There is not enough space on drive C:\ to extract this package."   I don't believe this because I still have 304 GB of space left on Drive C.
Any help on this issue would be appreciated

Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features, find QuickBooks in the list, click on it, and run Repair.  When complete, restart the computer and try updating again.

Make sure your current subscription is valid. Intuit is moving to a subscription model.

Make sure your firewall is not blocking the update. Go to the Intuit web site and search for Network Diagnostics. Download the Network Diagnostics tool, install and run it. See if it suggests network changes.

Concerning your mention of subscription I purchased quikbooks 2012 in September of 2012 and to my knowledge it was not a subscription.

Also, since I am running quickbooks only on this computer do I still need to run the Network Diagnostics tool?

I just thought of something else - I am running quickbooks 2012 on windows 10 pro Insider Preview.  Do you think that might have something to do with it?  Quickbooks is running OK now.  I was thinking that an update would resolve the other two issues I had, but since I run the repair those other issues went away. Now the only thing I can't do is the update.

I am not sure when the subscription idea came into effect - V2014 I think. Nonetheless, it may be having an impact if you cannot update. Again, I am not sure (I always just use the current version which now is V2015).

With respect to network diagnostics - no, you do not need to run these if it is 1 user on a local machine.

You can try two things:

1. Uninstall QB completely, restart and install QB again. Try to update. Does it work.?
2. Temporarily mount QB on another computer and try updating again. Does this work?

I am running QuickBooks 2012 on windows 10 pro Insider Preview.

I am not sure if this will work. QB V2012 works on Windows 7. QB V2013, V2014 and V2015 run on Windows 8.1 (my machine).

I have Windows 10 Build 10074 running, but I don't know if QB V2012 will work on that. It is old and Intuit won't help because it is out of support. Per my earlier suggestion, try installing on a Windows 7 machine and see if it updates.

Thank you for taking the time to help me with this issue.  At this time I am not going to worry about it as long as my quickbooks is running as good as it is.

Agains thanks a million

@beemmer  - Thanks for the update. If you go with Windows 10 when released, you will probably need a new version of QuickBooks.
