Exchange 2003 migration - forward Internal account to a contact and OOO message

Hi All

We are about to undertake a 2000 user migration from our internal exchange 2003 platform to a secure cloud provider (for public sector only) one of the drawbacks is there is no ability to integrate  our domains / messaging system and do a server based migration so it’s very much a manual process, we will also not be able to take our existing email domain so everyone will be getting a new email address @newdomain.com

We have bulk created all of the accounts on the cloud provider messaging platform

We will then create these as contacts on our internal platform, and at time of migration configure their internal account to the respective contact and have it deliver to just the contact (not the internal mailbox too) and exmerge there mailbox out to PST

The main question I have is we would like to put an Out of office or equivalent message on as we do the migration so the email gets forwarded but the sender gets a message to state their email address has changed.

Is this possible, I was not sure whether because we are forwarding the email within their AD user account even if we set an out of office message on their internal mailbox if that will actually work as the mail will be redirected before it ever gets to the mailbox to activate the OOO message.

Thanks

Nick

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This will work. Out of Office and forwarding are completely different and it will work just fine.

Nick do you have any spam filter software, like mail marshal. It is way more complex. Exchange server won't be best in this case.
