"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Possibly SP1 is already included in the OS? Unless the installation DVD is very old, it is very likely it already came with SP1 integrated.

I would start freshly. Install the OS, then SP1, and after that the Windows updates.

Simplify Active Directory Administration

Administration of Active Directory does not have to be hard.  Too often what should be a simple task is made more difficult than it needs to be.The solution?  Hyena from SystemTools Software.  With ease-of-use as well as powerful importing and bulk updating capabilities.

This is production SERVER with other programs running ....

How can that be? A server that has been running for years MUST have had SP1 installed years ago! SP's are important for the stability and security OF OS's, they should be installed soon after the SP's get published, and SP1 for Windows 2008 r2 is several years old! Therefore the only way I can envision a situation where you have to install SP1 is on a fresh installation of the OS. Not on something that is already in production.

Check the Windowsupdates log. It should give you reasons as to why the installation failed. Common causes are that there isn't enough room, the file-system has corruptions etc. When checking the disk-space, don't forget to look at the small boot partition, if that doesn't have enough room the installation fails too.

Did you manually download SP1then install it? Also next time, please attach the file, or embed it as code. It is easier to read that way.

Yes I download it manually, I disabled Antivirus
But still after restarting it says SP1 installation is not successful...

Maybe you got a corrupt download. Download SP1 again (make sure it is the correct version for your OS and language).

Before running SP1, also make sure the filesystems on the PC are fine (chkdsk /f /r, reboot and wait until finished). You may have to temporarily add a drive-letter to the boot partition so you can also chkdsk that.

Also do a disk cleanup before running the update.

SP1 installed successfully
the issue was permission ...

-          Edit the security/permissions of the file C:\Windows\inf\usbstor.inf and take the ownership of the file
-          Make sure to give SYSTEM and administrators FULL control to this file. Also give Users read & execute and read permissions
-          To confirm run the following command: cacls C:\Windows\inf\usbstor.inf
