Creating iOS App with VB6/ASP background

I have begun my road to turning one of my web services into an iOS app.  I have downloaded xCode and following a training program for Swift.  I have a couple of questions:

1) Is Swift sort of like the Visual Basic for the iOS?
2) Is there anything like "Option Explicit" in this environment to ensure variable declarations?
3) Can anyone think of another resource for comparing the differences between my "old" world and my "new" world?  I know it is a quantum leap in many respects...just trying to lessen the learning curve.

Thank you!!!

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.
