Newsfeed Email alerts

The only thing I can think of is this;

When you have multiple views on a list and you create an alert then you have the option to create an alert that fires only when something in that list changes.

Haven't tried this out, but if you can create a view on your posts to show the new ones but not the replies and set an alert on that view, you may be in business.

By default every Conversation (replied) is sending back alert emails we want to stop Conversations email alerts and allow only new posts

I tried this out in SP2010. Should work but doesn't.

Create a Flat view in your Discussion Board, create a filter in the view to show items where Content Type = Discussion. (Because the replies have Content Type of Message).

In the Folders section of the view, ensure it is visible in All Folders.

For my idea, the above would work, and the view would be selectable in the Alert window. Alas due to the custom coding that makes the Discussion Board work as it does the above causes an error. Creating the view gives "Attempted to use an object that has ceased to exist".

The view does get created, but is not selectable in the Alerts Window.
