connecting to a database remotely

Hi all and thanks in advance

I am trying to get my page to connection to my access database remotely

I know locally you can use this:
oConn.Open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="&Server.MapPath("core/activcore.mdb")

what do you use for a URL?

cheers

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I don't think you can do that directly.  'activcore.mdb' is a file and not a server that can process requests.  All the SQL databases are servers where you connect to the server which processes your request.

Yes, you can connect your website to an access database but only if it's stored locally on the server, or on a machine in the same network as the server.

Your connection string looks to be correct, but of course we don't know if it is or not. Make sure that the "Data Source" argument points to a valid, accessible location on the server or network.

You'll need the necessary drivers on the machine to do this, of course, but I'd be very surprised if they're not already there.

Also, if you're receiving an error when you try to connect it would be helpful if you could post the details of that message.
