Error joining Server 2008 Standard VM to 2003 Standard Domain

This is a 2008 not 2008R2--it is a VM on Hyper-V 2012. I have run all the required adprep on the 2003 Domain controller. Error5 I get is "access denied" for trying to join to the 20003 domain. I am attaching a word document with a series of screenshots that I took on my third attempt at this--I have added comments on top of each picture/screenshot for added explanations. As an added FYI, thinking maybe I was doing something wrong, I went to another client's 2012 Hyper-V, added a 2008 server, and without any issues was able to successfully join it to their 2003 domain; this leads me to conclude there is some issue on this 2003 domain that is preventing me from joining to it but I don't know what else to try.
Followed these directions w/o any resolution https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2002413/en-gb

Thanks for that suggestion but I already tried that--did not work either. Even though on the other 2003 domain did not have to join it first. I simply added the AD role and ran dcpromo wizard. Have always run "add AD role" then run dcpromo wizard (no join to domain first), not even for server 2012 server that I have added to 2003 domains and have not had any issues before. Regardless have tried adding it a standalone server first and then adding AD but got the same error as the one noted.
Access Denied error message is usually a permissions related problem. Have you ensured that you have the appropriate permissions on your account?

Will.
I ran through the add server to domain first before running dcpromo to show you the errors i get and low and behold this time I was able to join. Did everything the same way as before. For some reason it worked this time. Really strange. I am going to wait a few days before awarding you the points just to make sure it is stable--and nothing else weird shows up. Thanks
