MS Word Tables

Is there a way in Word to not have the printed copy have the table borders BUT while editing the document, see some sort of faint border that tells you that the text is in a table?

Yes, there is an option to show table gridlines:

Under Table Tools, on the Layout tab, in the Table group, click View Gridlines.

And also apply formatting to the table to remove the border formatting.
