I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Any email sent to @School.bristol.sch.org or (@bristol.sch.org for that matter) will not arrive as there is no designated mail server assigned to accept those emails.

The only valid email address would be @sch.org

It's easy to test, just send one from gmail, or whatever external email/webmail you have available. That way you can always tick off your own email system as a culprit.

Besides delivery delayed, in a few hours you will get a delivery failed message as well.

It looks like an issue with the receiving end.

Check if you are able to email other external addresses (hotmail, gmail, etc.).
See if you can email someone else in the same organisation.

You didn't read carefully, I said the problem is probably NOT on your side. Therefore the hotmail/gmail comment was for you to test, FROM a hotmail or gmail account TO that same address where it failed.

You best way to test this is to telnet to this mail server and send a test email. IF you cannot telnet on port 25 to a mail server then the issue is on the recipients end.

As I also said, there's no mail server. I only wanted the tests, in case someone didn't believe me and wanted proof.

@bristol.sch.org has no MX (mail exchange records)
@sch.org does have a mailbox (google apps for education)
