We use exchange 2007 and out look 2010 client.
One of the staff emailed a person , who doesn't work in our organisation and they got the "Delivery is delayed to these recipients or distribution lists" message  and I sent a test email to 2:00Pm and received a  Delivery Delayed: Test email please ignore Mail Delivery Subsystem < @6:00Pm

Delivery is delayed to these recipients or distribution lists:

Subject: Test email plaese ignore

This message has not yet been delivered. Microsoft Exchange will continue to try delivering the message on your behalf.

Our spam filtering is hosted outside.
I am not sure where the problem lies , do I need to talk to our spam filterers. Please help to trouble shoot this problem

It looks like an issue with the receiving end.

Check if you are able to email other external addresses (hotmail, gmail, etc.).
See if you can email someone else in the same organisation.
Any email sent to or ( for that matter) will not arrive as there is no designated mail server assigned to accept those emails.

The only valid email address would be

It's easy to test, just send one from gmail, or whatever external email/webmail you have available. That way you can always tick off your own email system as a culprit.

Besides delivery delayed, in a few hours you will get a delivery failed message as well.

You didn't read carefully, I said the problem is probably NOT on your side. Therefore the hotmail/gmail comment was for you to test, FROM a hotmail or gmail account TO that same address where it failed.

You best way to test this is to telnet to this mail server and send a test email. IF you cannot telnet on port 25 to a mail server then the issue is on the recipients end.

As I also said, there's no mail server. I only wanted the tests, in case someone didn't believe me and wanted proof.
