I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I use sharing in the very traditional pre-Windows 8 sharing methodology. It is for sharing folders and sharable devices (some screens can be shared).

Here is a Microsoft article about the use of the Share Charm

You may also need to make changes in Network and Sharing Center, Advanced Sharing options depending on what you wish to share.

Can you add Windows program like outlook to the list of shared apps?
'You dont have any apps that can share this content'
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
I do not see that capability at all in the Share charm or any documentation about it. I do not think it is for sharing applications, but rather folders (One Drive) and sharable devices.

Also, when you say Outlook, you cannot share PST files this way. Not supported.
JElsterAuthor Commented:
thanks.. just wanted to share a link and email it.. another reason not to use windows
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
@JElster  - "wanted to share a link and email it" You can email a link - that is what I would do. Just send an email with the link. I hope that helps.

Can you add Windows program like outlook to the list of shared apps that charm is only for metro apps
I wonder what the questioner was hoping to do.
JElsterAuthor Commented:
Press Share.    Use screenshot or press PRINT SCREEN and select OUTLOOK from the SHARED APPS open a new EMAIL and PASTE. This will be done programmatically via WinJS.
Ok, so it wasn't solved. Or have you found out how to use this feature?
JElsterAuthor Commented:
Can't be done -  that I know of..   Question gave me a better understanding
Outlook (Office) is not accessible via the Share Charm. Not a windows store app.
tried using WinJS

  function registerForShare() {
        // WinJS API
        var dataTransferManager = Windows.ApplicationModel.DataTransfer.DataTransferManager.getForCurrentView();
        dataTransferManager.addEventListener("datarequested", shareLinkHandler);

    function shareLinkHandler(e) {
        // WinJS API
        var request = e.request; = "Share Link Example"; = "A demonstration that shows how to add a link (URI) to share.";
        // TODO: setUri is deprecated Windows.Foundation.Uri(""));

       etc.... etc......
