Moving Windows 7 Backup to HyperV Virtual Machine

I am trying to take a windows 7 backup and do a complete restore to a virtual machine.  What is the best method in doing this.  I dont want to mount the VM and I was have tried the repair and recover from backup but that is not working.  I even tried the disk2vhd(x) program and all I get is a disk read error occurred.   Any other options or am I doing something wrong.

Disk read error indicates there is a hard issue with the disk, so you may have issues with "cloning" this to do a P2V/V2V.

Microsoft has issued a free tool to do this correctly now.

HOW TO:  P2V, V2V for FREE to Hyper-V -  Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter 3.1

HOW TO: Convert a physical server or virtual server (P2V/V2V) to Microsoft Hyper-V using Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter 3.1
