how to insert characters in front of a filenames in a directory in windows

I have bunch of file names in a directory.  eg.
        2930HH1440.xml
        223HH1364.xml
        3550HH3664.xml
.. and so on.
I want to rename these files so that all start with HH_
e.g
       HH_2930HH1440.xml
       HH_223HH1364.xml
       HH_3550HH3664.xml
how can I do this  in windows?  in dos mode?
thanks.

In a CMD window...
for %a in (*.xml) do ren "%a" "HH_%a"

Bulk Rename Utility is a free utility that can do what you want:

Even better is Flash Renamer, but it's not free (although it has a free trial):
