ESXi 5.1 HA agent will not install

Earlier today I added a host to cluster that did not have a datastore defined ( boot from SAN). Anyway this cause the HA install to fail. Now I have a warning message stating HA is disabled for the host.

I have tried to remove and readd the host, remove the VPXUser from host, reboots and nothing works..

I know you can force install the HA agent on a cluster by turning HA off then on again . But I really do not want to do this for a cluster with 20 hosts...

Also there is no option to reconfigure HA since it never installed the first time.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Check the space, on the installation partition for ESXi, also check the FDM logs on the host.

It will state what the issue is, with the installer.

There are no logs since I rebooted the server and the scratch location is not persistent still. The old part is usually when you remove and add a host if it is missing ha it will automatically try to reinstall it and it does not

after it tries to install HA Agent (FDM).

Tail the log on the server....

The HA Agent is simply a tar ball which is copied to the Server from vCenter if it does not exist....

once it's been copied, it's extracted and then it's installed..

this can fail, if it's not copied, not enough space for the tar ball, not enough space for the extraction, or install fails!

check logs...FDM logs are quite detailed.

This happenes to us all the time, when updates are applied to ESXi, because updates take up space, and leave no space for HA....

or you log (opt) volume fills up, or you are using another third party plugin....

Enable and Disable HA in the Cluster.

or if you really want to be dare-ing, manually install HA.
