6. Optional: Advanced encryption settings

You can choose to encrypt your synced data. By default, your Google Account password is used to encrypt saved passwords. You can change it to encrypt all your synced data.
You can choose to use your own passphrase instead of the Google Account password. If you change your encryption method on one computer, you might receive a sync error notification on other computers where you’re syncing your data. Enter the new passphrase on other computers to resolve the error.

from a hard drive where it doesn't boot to windows any more

1. Go to the folder containing the bookmarks file: (On Windows 7 it is C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default). Note: If the file is hidden, you will need to change the folder options to unhide it (In the Explorer window, go to Tools, Folder options, View. Select the option "Show hidden files.")
2. Copy the file called "bookmarks" to a thumbdrive to transfer to your new PC, or attach the file to an email message and send it to the new PC.
3. After installing Chrome on the new PC, go to the folder containing the bookmarks file (the same folder as in step 1).
4. Close Chrome if it is running, and change the name of the bookmarks file to "bookmarks.old"
5. Copy the bookmarks file from your old PC, from your thumbdrive or email attachment, into the folder on your new PC.
