Hyper-V Virtual mahcine
On windows 2012 R2, i have created one virtual machine. THe principal machine can reach internet but however, the virtual machine cannot access event the gateway. I have a virtual switch which is external in type and the virtual machine is supposed to use this switch to reach the internet. basically no connectivity from virtual machine.
Does the virtual switch have a dedicated NIC? Did you make sure the VM NIC is connected to the virtual switch? Did you check the IP settings for typos? Proper subnet mask, etc? Does the physical NIC have connectivity okay, bad cabling, failed physical port, etc?

yes it has and that is why the physical machine can connect to the Internet. subnetting is ok. virtual switch type is external which is connected to the physical NIC.
I guess the point I was trying to make is that a lot of things can cause the symptoms you are seeing. I listed quite a few. You'll need to do some troubleshooting to narrow down the problem, and then posting more specific information will help experts such as myself give you better advice. But for now, the potential issues are just too many and too broad.

Is the VM NIC attached to the virtual switch? Did you check cabling? Did you change the physical NIC properties after creating the virtual switch?
from the vm do an ipconfig /all and check the settings they should be in the same subnet as the host machine and use the same gateway as the host machine.
ASKER
it is in the same subnet

cliff yes i changed the physical net adapter and then link the new adaptor to the virtual switch.
Yes, it did you attach the *VM's* virtual NIC (under VM settings to the virtual switch? If it is "not connected" then having a virtual switch does no good.
hi,
make a bridge between the vm switch and the host's connection adapter in host environment.
