Clicking link keeps trying to download .jnlp file

Hello Experts,

When we try to launch an application from a website, once the link is clicked it will try and download a jnlp extension file.

We do have Java installed which is the program associated with this extension, however the file should open the program and not install it. It seems Java is not being recognized, as in control panel it says "application not found" for Java but it is in add/remove programs and i can also launch the cpl via the program directory.

PLease help.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Sounds like the website might not be setting the mimetype properly. But try the following at the command line

javaws http://something.jnlp

(Of course javaws must be in your PATH)
as in control panel it says "application not found"
Really - where? Are you sure you don't mean at the command line?
