Office 365 Backup/Restore

We have just had a call from a client who uses Office 365 SharePoint.
His laptop got the crypto virus and now his Office 365 SharePoint is also infected.
Questions:
Is the Office 365 only appearing infected because it has synced with his laptop?
Can he get earlier versions from the encrypted files
Do Microsoft have a backup in place, if so how is it accessed.

What is the best practice for backing up and protecting an Office 365 install

Many thanks

If he is syncing everything to SPO/ODfB, chances are that the cloud files are also encrypted. Have him check if versioning is configured for the document libraries in question (the OneDrive for business ones should have it enabled by default) and restore a previous version of the file.

Hi Vasil

Do Microsoft have a backup or is that down to the client to make sure it is backed up locally?

Microsoft do not offer a point-in-time backup. The versioning functionality, if enabled for the library in question, will allow him to recover older versions of the files.
