if you are able to purchase a 2008 r2 enterprise key, you can just change the edition from there without an OS upgrade

I have a copy of SQL 2012 running on Windows server 2008 R2 Standard.<br />

i need to add more ram to the server, so to get rid of the 32gb limit i need to upgrade the OS to 2012 r2.<br />

Can i do an in place upgrade without mauling my SQL Server? or should i set up a brand new server and just migrate the data across?<br />
