Configure SMTP connection for my Exchange 2010 server


I know this should be super simple but how do I configure an SMTP connection to use with my internal Exchange 2010 server?
I have an App that requires only.

Is it a situation where I need a public DNS called or is this something I need to do in Exchange?

Seems like you could just use a A record with the IP or a CNAME record to alias the actual MX record name.  Or even a CNAME internally for

Awesome. I created an A record on my internal DNS that is now allowing communication internally via ping.

The App is still not working so am going to create a public dns name with my ISP and see if that helps.

Alrighty, all set! Internal DNS entry ( as well as a Public DNS entry with pointing to my Public IP.

Did the trick! Didn't even need to alter Exchange in any way which is even better. Thanks for the advice.
