SharePoint 2010 workflow error when publishing (0, 0) Activity 'ID234' validation failed: Cannot resolve Activity 'ID217'.)

I am working on a SharePoint 2010 workflow and when I compile it I get no errors.  However, when I try to publish it, I get an error that states    (0, 0) Activity 'ID234' validation failed: Cannot resolve Activity 'ID217'.)

Any idea what this is referring to?   Is there a way to 'debug' so that I can see where the workflow is hanging up?

Thank you.

I did a little digging online and found the following link that was very helpful:
http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/62021/cannot-resolve-activity

The cause of the error:  I copied and pasted some of the workflow -- apparently, SP sometimes has issues when a copy and paste is done and causes this error to occur.

Basically, my issue was only able to be resolved by deleting the workflow and then re entering the workflow.  I did try to clear the cache, without success.
