windows 2012 std R2 cannot browse the network

We have a single server running Windows 2012 R2 server, which is running 2 virtual machines. All seems to be working OK

We have created a domain controller on VM1 and we have a data server running on VM2. They are connected together in a single domain. This server is currently being prepared and there are no other computers connected at this stage.

We have network discovery enabled on both VM's

We can ping each server from each other, and we can connect to shared areas by typing the address in a browser. The only thing we cannot seem to do is browse the network.

It goes through the scanning process, but does not display an computers. We have discovery enabled on both, and I have enable NetBIOS over TCP.

We do not have any anti virus

Can anyone help in resolving this rather frustrating problem??

Any advice much appreciated.

did u disabled the firewall ?

No, but we have network discovery allowed on the firewall.

I have not had to do anything with a Microsoft firewall before, just for its own local discovery. It does not even show itself when we try to browse.

Many thanks

Is the server service running?
Has Powershell sent you back into the Stone Age?

2 conditions must be met for discovery
- Enabling server to discover others
- Enabling server to be discovered by others
Since you're in a domain environment, I will suggest making your changes via GPO
