Linux Gnome 3 crash fallback classic mode

Hello. I'm using Linux Debian on a ThinkPad T400 laptop. I use without problems Gnome 3. But a few weeks ago Gnome has fallen back to classic mode. I don't know the reason. Some data from my system:
uname -a
Linux Geminis004 3.2.0-4-686-pae #1 SMP Debian 3.2.68-1+deb7u1 i686 GNU/Linux

lspci -v | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

Maybe the reason is a problem with OpenGL:

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

THere is no recent intel graphics driver updates on debian 7. I hope we end up force-reinstalling one broek package and we be all set.
Acronis True Image 2019 just released!

Create a reliable backup. Make sure you always have dependable copies of your data so you can restore your entire system or individual files.

run (in terminal, after su -)
update-alternatives --config libglx.so

and choose generic xorg 3d library

If that does not work somehow tell me I will figure out which package to reinstall.

I receive an error message:

You have half-installed nvidia driver
dpkg -s /usr/lib/xorg/modules/linux/libglx.so
nothing? something?
something
a) nvidia* - ininstall that
b) xorg-xserver*
In ubuntu /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so is the right file
apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-core
nothing:
remove offending file (or uninstall nvidia driver?)
then run apt-get as above a), and restart X (reboot or ctrl-alt-backspace)
you cannot damage much, just in case something is still wrong GLX will not work still.

I suppose this is "nothing". Then I need to remove libglx.so and run  apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-core?

or will be better remove Nvidia drivers. My drivers are:

Well, the problem is partially solved but not at all. I've changed the name of libglx.so and then:

I've restarted and now the desktop looks like Gnome 3. I can press Alt-F1 and write names of applications for selecting them. But nothing occurs if I click the icon with the mouse. I need to use Tab for launch the application. The same problem if I click menu subitems on Desktop (network, battery, etc). I can use the mouse without problems inside the applications. Another strange behavior is that opening System Settings window and then closing it causes logout.

Try various flip switches from here:
http://www.x.org/releases/X11R7.7/doc/man/man4/intel.4.xhtml

It just looks that you were using software rasterizer but I fixed hardware acceleration.

I don't understand well your suggestion. "Flip switches" means to modify the default Xorg configuration? Need I to modify xorg.conf files? I can see several "Options" in the web page you have provided to me. These options are the "switches"?.
Thanks
gheistCommented:
Boolean option that can be TRUE or FALSE is equivalent of flip switch.

I've searched for Driver intel on xorg.conf files without success:

~$ sudo find / -iname *xorg.conf*
/usr/share/man/man5/xorg.conf.d.5.gz
/usr/share/man/man5/xorg.conf.5.gz
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d

~$ ls /usr/share/X11
locale rgb.txt XErrorDB xkb xman.help xorg.conf.d
~$ ls /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d
10-evdev.conf 50-synaptics.conf 50-vmmouse.conf 50-wacom.conf

None of these four files contains "intel". I've not found xorg.conf file.

I've created a test file 00-test.conf with option DRI set to "off". When I restart, Linux starts in command line mode. I've deleted the file but anyway Linux starts in command line mode. Due that I need this computer daily I'll restore an image of Linux partition.

Somehow missed your previous message....
Yes, restore it...
Cleaning up after force-install of nvidia driver is not trivial. Probably some more libraries are replaced (like VDPAU etc), and some config files dropped around /usr/lib* and /etc/X11 too...
ConsJMEAAuthor Commented:
Thanks. I've restored the partition and now all is working fine.
