MS PPT - and images (attempts to darken)

I am using PPT 2014

I have an image that is light gold and white.

There is white lettering within the gold image that does not show up quite as well as I would like.  (It is acceptable, but I am trying to improve on it a little)

Within PPT, is there a way to darken an image except for the white pixels ?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I forgot to mention the gold is in a gradient fade.
You can try right-clicking the image and choosing Format Picture. Then adjust Brightness and Contrast on the Picture Corrections tab. Maybe you can find a setting or combo of settings that works for your specific image.
