Slower Performance in MSSQL 2014

We upgrade from MSSQL 2008 Standard to MSSQL 2014 to take advantage of the BPE on SSD.  We have the database running on a Virtual Machine in Azure.   For most databases, the performance is great, however for databases with a few large tables the performance is horrible.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?    I've been looking around for solutions and cannot find anything.

The resources on the server seem to be fine....low CPU usage, etc.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Are your tables properly indexed? How large is large? Have checked that you don't have an IO bottleneck?

Have you defragged your tables and rebuilt your indexes?
ccleebeltPresidentAuthor Commented:
how do you defrag tables?   I have scripts running to rebuild to recalculate indexes that are fragmented, however the indexes were built in SQL2008.

Understanding that 2012 handles many objects very differently, should I drop and rebuild all?

the indexes were built in SQL2008.
This can be a reason. The algorithm might be changed for 2014 so it's recommended to rebuild all indexes. The larger the table worst will be the performance.
