Change Mouse Pointer when over a button

I'm changing the mouse pointer to "wait" ( = 'wait';) after a button is clicked.  I get the "wait" icon everywhere on the page, except when I hover over the button itself, which gives me the "hand" pointer.  How can I make the  Mouse Pointer the "wait" pointer when hovering over a button?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Possibly because you addressed the document object, so you may have to change the button object.

I tried doing this:

var savebtn = document.getElementById("<%= SaveButton.ClientID %>");
savebtn .style.cursor = 'wait';

but it did not work.

William - the method you suggested, I do not understand how I would then switch it back to a hand.  When  they click the button, I want to wait pointer, then when my processing is complete, I need to switch it back to the hand,.
