VB.Net - Keypress event issue with Max Length

I have a very strange issue.  I had set one of my textbox in a vb.net form to set anything type in there as upper case.  It works fine, but I had also set the maxlength to 10.  If I type alphanumeric, it works fine.  However, if I type all in letters then it exceeds past 10.  Is there something I am missing?

Private Sub txtItemID_KeyPress(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles txtItemID.KeyPress
        If Char.IsLower(e.KeyChar) Then
            txtItemID.SelectedText = Char.ToUpper(e.KeyChar)
            e.Handled = True
        End If

    End Sub

Instead of doing the job yourself, simply set the CharacterCasing property of the TextBox to Upper. It will take care of everything.
