Not being able to search for contacts in outlook 2013

I have an issue where a user is unable to search through his contacts for individual people, but all of his contacts are there. The same issue is happening on his Mobile device and Webmail. It just seems like the search function is not working. Does anybody have a solution for this?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

you can look at indexing under 'backstage, options, Search, indexing options'
- check that Microsoft Office outlook is included in the indexed locations
- under advanced you have options to rebuild which will run through the indexes and correct any problems or reset which will delete the files and start again

Here's a step by step guide

Firstly check Contact folder is enabled as an email address book or not.

And for mobile device try: Settings > Contacts > Import SIM contacts. All my contacts were stored to Address Book.

Hi George Hernandez,

Is this happening only for one User or any other User as well?

If it is not working on any of the device and OWA then most likely it is Server side issue and not client side issue.

Did you checked the Event Logs on the server if you could find any error related to search?

Hi Sudeep,

This is happening with only 2 users. I disabled exchange cached mode and the contacts are now searchable through outlook, but still not searchable through his phone or OWA. I have the Netops team looking into this issue on the server side.

Most likely it is server side.
