Domain trusts and functional level issues

I'm planing for next year to make a 2 way trust between 2 domains, I wonder if there are issues re. domain and forrest functional levels of the 2 domains.
Right now both domains are Server 2008 R2 for both domain and forrest functional levels. Should I keep it like this, or can I raise one of the domains to
Server 2012 R2 for both domain and forrest functional levels before making the trust

Please be free to give other advices. Trusts is new for me.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You should have no impact at all. If you were sitting on a 2000 domain with FFL/DFL sitting trying to create a trust with 2012R2 you might have some difficulty, but for 2008R2 and 2012R2 you should have absolutely no issues at all.

Another note is if both Forests are at least 2003 forest functional level you should not have any issues at all.
