Failure during DCPROMO

the current role holder is server 2012 and the server that is being promoted is 2008. I believe the issue may be reside with the SOA record and NS entry in DNS. there are the correct records in the NS. <servername.domain.internal> but also shows <servername.> Also SOA shows <servername.> I have corrected this but when DNS is restarted it reverts back. all the other entries of <servername.> were removed.

 the the 2012 server is a cloud server with site to site to the 2008 server. the 2008 server had a replication issue and tomb stoned. roles were successfully transferred, and the 2008 server was demoted and meta data clean up.

here is the error from the dcpromo log:

Calling DsRoleGetDcOperationResults
dcpromoui E6C.9A8 06EC 11:05:12.546       Error 0x0 (!0 => error)

Any firewalls in between the two servers?

ASKER

cloud server is hosted by intermedia, they say they have opened ports for replication. local server is behind an ASA that hasn't been modified. prior to the demotion cloud-> physical replication was working physical-> cloud would fail.
