light is orange ?? on range extender netgear

Specs: netgear wn2500rp.range extender, router Linksys ac1900

I need help to make the light on my Net gear WN2500RP Range Extender  5 ghz to be green like the 2.4 ghz freq. that is currently on. I Have a Linksys EA6900 router ac1900. I use the range extender to stream Netflix through my Samsung BD player  and music contents on my Denon AVVR1913 home theater receiver.
I have the range extender in the living room which is more than ~50 feet away from the router. is it supposed to be orange or red?? is that normal if I wanted to use that freq. is better for streaming faster more stable or what??
Thank you

basically the LED in YELLOW (orange) means the wireless connection between the extender and the router is GOOD (better than POOR (red) and worse than OPTIMUM (green), it is just an indicator of the connetion quality.

Are your wireless devices connected to the 5Ghz wireless?  Many don't support that frequency and only use the 2.4Ghz connection.
Many, too, don't realize there is only one radio for each frequency and all of the connected devices share its bandwidth.  For example, if four devices are all actively using the same wireless, each will get 1/4 of the total bandwidth.  This also applies to the main router so, if its wireless is busy, the extender will get a lower data rate.
And last, wireless is pure line-of-sight with things like appliances, ductwork, walls, floors, and TV screens acting as blocks.  Often, moving one end or the other, even a few feet, can have a major effect on the signal quality.
The status page of the extender will show you the connection speed(s) (Page 20): http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/WN2500RP/WN2500RP_UM_9Nov12.pdf

When I go to the www.miwifiext.net I get an error message in order to set it up. Can you please tell me how to fix this?

Oops!

It seems that you have navigated to this page by accident. If you are looking to connect to the user interface of your NETGEAR Powerline or WiFi Extender device, please connect to that device’s WiFi hotspot and try the URL again (http://mywifiext.net).

If you are having difficulty connecting or need instructions, please visit our Support page for Powerline devices or for WiFi Extenders and select your product.

That tells me you are not connected to the extender; but, rather to the main router. What is its make and model?

I had listed in my question but here it is anyway. I Have a Linksys EA6900 router ac1900

The users manual from my first post says it is best to first use an Ethernet wire from a PC to the extender for setting it up and for troubleshooting.  Try it that way.

I tried to connect the RE via Ethernet cable and put that www.miwifiext.net and it still gave me oops message. However the lights are green for both 2.4 and 5 ghz on the RE. I downloaded the firmware but I could not open it because I don't have WinZip it is asking for me to buy it. what do I need to do now?

Davis McCarnOwnerCommented:
7-Zip is way better than WinZip and it is free:  http://www.7-zip.org/  Make sure you get the version that matches your PC (32 bit or 64)
I; though, wouldn't even try a firmware upgrade at this point.
What you need to do is to connect using HTTP://<the extenders ip> (i.e. 192.168.0.5) which you can find by either looking at the connected devices on the Linksys's webpage or by using Netscan: https://www.softperfect.com/products/networkscanner/

If the firmware upgrade is not needed then why I am not able to log into the mywifiext.net to configure the range extender.
Progress: When connected to the PC Ethernet port from the RE and pushing the WPOS on the RE then the WPS symbol on the Linksys page it said congratulations now connected however when I connected it RE to Blu-ray only 2.4 GHZ light green and 5 GHS is red and the Wireless Device to Extender LED is not lit though do you think I need to push the WPS 2x since it is a dual band router and dual band RE? and hopefully the Wireless Device to Extender LED will be lit then. But most complexing issue is not being able to access the Netgear page for configuration I keep getting the OOPS message

Thank you

Yes, the 5Ghz wireless is a completely different radio from the 2.4Ghz so each one needs connecting.
Because the Linksys is acting as your DNS and most routers suck at routing local members properly, the mywifiext name has no ip address registered in the Linksys.  As I said:

Just one question why does netgear give that website if it does not work instead why not provide people with the ip address?? ok I will try to find the ip address thank you

Davis McCarnOwnerCommented:
If the Netgear was acting as the DNS, that mywifiext.net would work and those instructions (sort of) assume you don't have it connected to another router yet.
DHCP grants an ip address to devices as they connect so Netgear has no idea what ip the extender has.

my last problem with this issue is "" the Wireless Device to Extender LED is not lit "" which I had asked in my earlier question but did not get answered. Why is it not lit and what does that serve or indicate whenever it is lit?? finally I did find the ip address from the router when I try to log in it said congratulations you are successfully connected but it would not allow me to open the configuration screen .How can I accomplish this?

Thank you

If the Netgear rebooted while saving the config, it may well have a new ip address which would need you to then find it again and access it at the new ip.
I think the led you mention is saying that no other devices are connected to the Netgear; but, you'd have to check the user manual to be sure.

If there is no devices connected to the RE then how could I be streaming Netflix on my BDP that is connected with an Ethernet cable to RE??
0
Davis McCarnOwnerCommented:
I'll bet the led is for wireless devices so wired ones don't count.
