SQL Server 2008 permissions

I am installing Sophos Enterprise Server on server 2012, it requires access to DB, for that I am trying to reference it to our SQL server which is running windows 2008.
So I created an account on AD, gave it admin rights, on SQL server added that account and gave it sysadmin rights.
Now when I am trying to reference to SQL Server during Sophos installation, it says account in invalid, so what I am missing?

Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.
