How to Fix a Cisco 857 that keeps looping to rommon 1

Hi

I have a Cisco 857 that had a issue today where it lost its config

On reloading it, and then rebooting the unit by turning off and back on, the config was lost

I am sort of a little new to cisco routers but have had this issue before and used a KB article advising to do a config-register 0x2102

after doing a reboot now it stops at rommon 1 and can not get it to go more then that.

I have tried a confreg 0x2102 but just keeps looping around

Need help

Adam

Hi,
it seems your router has an hardware problem:
*Mar  1 00:00:07.207: %SMC-2-BAD_ID_HW: Failed Identification Test in 0/-1/-1 [1/0]

Should it be on smartnet contract you can raise a TAC with cisco and get it replaced.

I had a similiar problem a while ago and eventually solved by replacing RAM into the router. However it might be anything else

hope this helps
