Add Access Control to Website

So this may be a strange question, but bear with me.

I am proficient at building Drupal websites, and I would like to build one for our department at work. However, the resources I need for building the website are not available at work (servers etc).

I can easily build one and publish on the web, but I don't need this website to be available to the general public. We have an internal network and intranet.

So here's the question: Is there any way to publish a website on the web, but have it accessible only if it is accessed from, say a certain IP range, or something else like that? I know that I can password protect the site, but I want internal users to be able to access it seamlessly, without having to login.

Your thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.
