Correctly Migrating an Exchange 2013 mailbox into Office 365

I have been trying my best to search for this myself but not finding much. We are in a Hybrid Exchange 2013 Environment, Im trying to correctly sync/migrate a mailbox from Exchange 2013 into Office 365. I recently came into my position and feel a bit overwhelmed by all the change. An outsourced IT company handled 80% of everything so far. I recently experimented with a test account and dont think I correctly Migrated everything. I ended up with 2 mailboxes ><  (myname@oldexchange.net and myname@exchange2013.net)  I do have light experience with Exchange 2007 and 2010, never used any commands in EAC ( always used gui). am I in over my head?  My Company moved pretty quickly into this from Exchange 2007, their are still a couple mailboxes left on 07 but I have taken it upon myself to learn this..any help appreciated

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

About cutover Migration,  you can get some useful tips from here https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj874016(v=exchg.150).aspx

But it is not an easy task to migrate exchange from Exchange 2013 mailbox into Office 365 environment directly, using manual methods such as cutover migration. Perhaps that is why most of the experts are now using automated tools for this, so i would also suggest you to go for any professional tool such as  Stellar Mail Box Extractor for Exchange Server (http://www.stellarinfo.com/email-tools/mailbox-extractor.php) which can help you migrate  to Office 365 environment from all previous versions of exchange, without causing any downtime and that too in timely manner
