Well we want to have a calendar on the intranet that shows monthly activities going on here and have the users be able to see this if possible via their outlook. So not sure if I can have this done with exchange 2013 and if so how I would  get it accomplished?
Does this make sense.?

In this case you can create a shared mailbox and share it's calendar with all users or group of user you want to. Read this:

Shared mailbox you will creating on Exchange server, like you create user mailbox. When you create new mailbox select Shared mailbox option. Then you can configure it and perform further steps. For more info:

So once we have the calendar on our intranet site, then I have to setup a shared mailbox on the exchange server that will point to this calendar on the intranet?
