I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I've been using the manual download method documented here:

So far it has worked for every build of W10 through 10074. The latest is 10122, which is on my to-do list for today. I don't expect any problems with it, but will post back here to let you know. Regards, Joe

Update: Other than being a huge download and taking a long time to perform the update, Build 10122 looks good so far:

W10 Build 10122

You should see the Windows Defender icon in the system tray (notification area):

W10 Windows Defender icon system tray
Double-clicking on it should open up the Windows Defender dialog:

don't see this, maybe because of my "build 10074"

Maybe. I don't recollect if it was in 10074. Another place to look is Control Panel — you should see it there:
